Clean Candle Standards
At Thread & Crumb, our mission is to create candles that feel as good as they smell—beautiful, cozy, and safe for your home and family. Transparency matters to us, which is why we want you to know exactly what goes into our candles and what we leave out.
What You’ll Never Find in Our Candles
Phthalates – linked to potential hormone disruption.
Paraffin wax – a petroleum byproduct that releases unwanted byproducts when burned.
Lead or zinc wicks – we only use cotton wicks, free from harmful metals.
What We Use Instead
Beeswax + Tallow Blend – a natural, renewable wax combination that burns cleanly and evenly.
Phthalate-Free Fragrance Oils – carefully sourced for safety, with full Safety Data Sheets (SDS) reviewed before use.
100% Cotton Wicks – free of lead and zinc.
About Our Fragrance Oils
Our fragrances are thoughtfully blended using both:
Naturally derived aroma compounds such as:
Vanillin (vanilla)
Eugenol (clove)
Cinnamaldehyde (cinnamon)
Coumarin (tonka bean)
Safe synthetics such as:
Benzyl benzoate
Ethyl maltol
Hydroxycitronellal
Some of these are classified as skin or eye irritants when used at high concentrations. However, in candles, they are diluted into wax and intended for home fragrance only—not for direct skin application.

Our Ongoing Commitment
We’re always working toward cleaner and safer ingredients. While fragrance formulas are considered proprietary by manufacturers (and can’t be published in full), we are committed to sharing as much information as we can.
We’re currently building an expanded ingredients list right here on our website, so you can explore the components behind your favorite scents.
Why This Matters
We believe you deserve candles that are both safe and beautiful. By choosing phthalate-free, paraffin-free, and responsibly sourced materials, we’re creating products you can feel good about bringing into your home.
Our promise: Cozy glow, comforting fragrance, and complete transparency—without compromise.
