Giving Your Candle a Second Life — Inside the Second Flame Program
At Thread & Crumb, we try to make things that feel good — for your home and for the planet. Our candles are meant to bring you warmth and calm, not clutter or waste when they’re gone. That’s why we started the Second Flame Program — a simple way to return your empty jars so they can be cleaned, refilled, and loved again.
When you bring back your jars, you’ll earn a $2 credit toward your next order. It’s our way of saying thank you for helping us build something better — a small, local loop where nothing goes to waste.
How It Works
Clean your jar.
Once your candle has about half an inch of wax left, let it cool, freeze it for a few hours, and pop the leftover wax out.Return it.
Bring your jar to one of our local events, drop it off when you pick up an order, or mail it back to us.Get rewarded.
For every qualifying jar you return, we’ll add a $2 store credit to your account.
What the Circular Economy Means
You’ve probably heard the term “circular economy” floating around — but what does it really mean?
In short, it’s about keeping materials in use for as long as possible instead of constantly buying, tossing, and replacing. Think of it like a cycle: we pour the candle, you enjoy it, and when it’s done, the jar comes back home to start again.
By reusing jars, we cut down on waste, reduce the need for new glass production, and save the energy (and packaging) that goes into shipping new containers. It’s a small shift, but together it makes a big difference.
Why It Matters
Every jar that gets reused keeps one more piece of glass out of the landfill. It saves us from ordering more, and it keeps the materials already in circulation doing what they were made for — holding light.
The Second Flame Program is one small way we can all take part in something bigger — slowing down, using what we already have, and being a little more mindful of what we leave behind.
